Gauras are prairie plants native to the southern states of the USA and Mexico. They are pretty, deciduous perennials with small starry flowers in white or pink, appearing from early summer right through to autumn. The Greek origin of the word gauros means superb and the plant is also known as ‘wandflower’ and ‘beeblossom’, as well as ‘whirling butterflies’ due to their appearance when they dance in the breeze. Since the flowers of the gaura at Dzamling Gar are readily visited by many types of long-tongued bees and bumblebees, as well as butterflies, we have chosen ‘beeblossom’ as their most fitting name.
